Inter Milan possess a proud European pedigree, having lifted the continent’s premier club prize three times. Their first triumphs arrived back to back in 1964 and 1965 under legendary coach Helenio Herrera, whose Grandes Inter side pioneered the catenaccio system and featured icons like Sandro Mazzola and Giacinto Facchetti.

The Nerazzurri waited forty five years for a third success but the wait proved worth it when Jose Mourinho masterminded a historic treble in 2010. Inter defeated Bayern Munich 2 0 in Madrid with goals from Diego Milito, completing a season that also delivered Serie A and Coppa Italia titles.

Inter have reached two further finals without prevailing, losing to Celtic in 1967 and to Manchester City in 2023. Despite those near misses the club’s Champions League win rate in finals stands at a respectable sixty percent.

Their European record also features three UEFA Cup triumphs in the 1990s, making Inter the first Italian side to win every major UEFA competition. The 2025 final therefore presents an opportunity to join Real Madrid Bayern Munich and Liverpool on four Champions League titles.

Club president Steven Zhang has prioritised continental success as the benchmark of global stature. A fourth crown would cement Inter’s place among the elite and provide vindication for Simone Inzaghi, whose tactical tweaks have restored the club to regular knockout contention.
